A preliminary study of Buddhist caves and images from Bashu: Centered on north Sichuan
The study of Chinese Buddhist art has so far relied mainly on Buddhist caves. In central China after the mid-eighth century, the activity of carving Buddhist images on mountain cliffs shifted from the capital areas to Sichuan province,an area for various reasons that has received far less attention in the past than other well-knownBuddhist cave sites in Chian, such as Dunhuang,Yungang and Longmen.
