Inga R(o)mer, Das Begehren der reinen praktsichen Vernunft: Kants Ethik in ph(a)nomenologischer Sicht (The Desire of Practical Reason: Kant”s Ethics in View of Phenomenology)
Inga R(o)mer”s new book is a large and ambitious one.It contributes to research on Kantian ethics with a distinctive and substantial approach inspired by the tradition of phenomenology. The book provides intricate analyses on the thoughts of a number of major phenomenological figures. With such a vast range of ideas and issues to cover, it is nevertheless surprisingly well structured. In the introduction, R(o)mer states that ”history of philosophy without systematic questions is ”blind,” just like systematic question without history of philosophy remains ”empty”” (20).Guided by thismethodological slogan, the book makes an excellent case how a ”Spielraum” can be opened for different philosophical traditions and perspectives.
