The concept of a cinematographic remake has always been stigmatized as an act of plagiarism.For over a century,Shanghai and Hong Kong remakes of Hollywood films have often been considered inferior attempts to usurp authorship from Hollywood as the imaginary global center,while Hollywood remakes of East Asian films are seen as tributes to the imaginary Other by reauthoring these texts for global consumption.
