Xudong Zhang:Hi Brian, glad to be here.
B:And I understand Mo Yan is a pen name that means "don't speak." Is there a subtext there?
X:Well, maybe, but his actual name is Guan Moye,so it's close. He did not have to use this name to mean "no speech" or "no talk" in the 1980s,which was a very open, forward looking, outward looking age.
