Xudong Zhang:Hi Brian,glad to be here. B:And I understand Mo Yan is a pen name that means "don't speak." Is there a subtext there? X:Well,maybe,but his actual name is Guan Moye,so it's close.He did not have to use this name to mean "no speech" or "no talk" in the 1980s,which was a very open,forward looking,outward looking age.
