【language and power】（接上 期）A view of language as constitutive, rather than merely reflective of social relations has led critical linguistics to identify the mechanisms of reproducing social order through existing language patterns. Critical linguists (e.g. Fowler et al., 1979; Fairclough, 1989; see CRITICAL LINGUISTICS) have examined the structure of spoken and written texts in search of politically and ideologically salient features, which are often not evident to participants.
