[word family]
A word family is a group of words that share the same root but have different affixes、as in care,careful,careless,carefree,uncaring,carer.Mothercare andcaretaker however,do not belong to this family,as they incorporate words from other roots.Careful,careless etc are all derivatives of care in that,through the process of affixation (→word formation),new lexical words arc formed.These new words often belong lo different word classes:care =verb,noun,careful =adjectivc,carer =noun.
