英语教学术语选摘(六十八)
”vowel元音”Vowels and consonants make up the speechsounds (or phonemes) of English.Vowels, unlikeconsonants, are produced without any significantobstruction or constriction of the airflow from thelungs to the lips and beyond. What shapes thevowels — and distinguishes them from one another— are the position of the tongue and the shape ofthe lips. With regard to the tongue, the significantfeatures are the part of it that is raised, and theheight that it is raised to.If the front is raised, thevowels that are produced are called front vowels;ifthe back is raised, the vowels are called backvowels.Central vowels fall somewhere in between.
