[output hypothesis]
Output is the language that learners produce,either spoken or written.The output hypothesis is the theory that output,especially spoken output,is a necessary condition for language acquisition.This contradicts the view first proposed by Krashen in his input hypothesis.Krashen claimed that all that is necessary to ensure second language acquisition is comprehensible input.In contrast,Merrill Swain argues that learners also need to be pushed to produce comprehensible output as well.
