On Influence of Cultural Elements on Idioms
Idioms are regarded as the most active part in English vocabulary.They are widely accepted and used in our daily life,newspapers,magazines and radios.It has many characters,for example,brevity,humor,wit and philosophy.So plays a very important role in America and Britain as a tool of transmitting and recording language and culture.In another point of view,idioms,as a special form of language,exist in culture and reflect cultural differences.So if learners want to learn English idioms,they can't ignore the importance of cultural connotations.Culture is a compound which includes geography,custom,religion,history and so on.In order to transmitting the correct information included in idioms,learners need an extensive knowledge of the culture of both the source and target languages.Sometimes use literal translation,sometimes free translation,maybe sometimes combination of literaland free translation.This thesis lays stress on how to reflect the cultural differences in idioms by comparison in many aspects and listing some usual methods and skills in translating idioms.This paper will not only helps readers to understand the differences between these two languages exactly and translate them correctly,but also helps to further enhance their comprehension about English-speaking countries' culture.
