Trends and Limitations of the Australian Labor Party's China Policy
In Australia, the Labor Party has been very active diplomatically since it came to power, making multiple positive gestures to repair the relations with China, which were seriously impacted under the previous Liberal-National Coalition government. However, its policy toward China has not improved as much as some expected. On the contrary, the senior leadership in the Labor Party remains cautious in its stance on China and has repeatedly stressed that its position on China is the same as that of the Coalition. This article will analyze the trends and logic of the Australian Labor Party's policy toward China by examining the party's statements and measures during and after the 2022 federal election, to help better understand the trajectory of China-Australia relations.
