Recognizing the urgency of poverty eradication, the United Nations—the world's most important body of global governance—adopted in 2015 an ambitious plan of action, Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Among the priorities listed in the 2030 Agenda is "ending poverty in all its forms everywhere, including by eradicating extreme poverty by 2030."
